Edipo (Oedipus)

Collective creation from the classic Oedipus of Sophocles | Directed by José Carlos García

MDCA’s On.Stage Black Box Theatre | 2901 West Flagler Street, Miami

Co-sponsored by MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AUDITORIUM

(In Spanish with English supertitles)

Oedipus sets out, seeking to escape his inexorable fate, by which he will commit parricide and incest, duel with monsters, endure a plague and experience other such contretemps. On his way out of the country, he crosses paths with his father, Laius, whom he does not know. They argue and Oedipus kills the man. Once in Thebes, he easily solves the riddles posed by the Sphinx. The grateful Thebans give him the widow Jocasta, his mother, in marriage. When the awful truth comes to light, Jocasta hangs herself and Oedipus puts out his eyes. He ends his days in Colonnus, where his daughter Antigone takes him. This horrible story is told in a totally hilarious way.
