ACERCA DE LA OBRA / ABOUT THE PLAY
La caída del poder patriarcal a través de un viaje fragmentado por la memoria del Rey Lear es la premisa que sostiene esta perspectiva contemporánea del clásico Shakespeariano, donde las confrontaciones internas padre/hijas y las consecuencias del poder toman la palabra. Entre ellos una figura joven, el Bufón. El eco, el puente que irrumpe con verdades que ya no pueden callarse porque en Lear el tiempo no avanza, se repite, se disuelve, se abre como una herida que transforma la memoria del viejo Rey en un campo de batalla.
The demise of patriarchal power through a fragmented journey as seen through King Lear's memory is the premise that sustains this contemporary perspective on the Shakespearean classic, where the internal confrontations between father and daughter and the consequences of power take center stage. Among them, a young figure, the jester, the echo, the bridge, bursts with truths that can no longer be silenced because in Lear, time stops moving; it repeats itself, dissolves, and opens like a wound that transforms the old King's memory into a battlefield.

Actriz, directora, maestra de actuación y dramaturga venezolana. Se inicia en la actuación en el año 1973. Desde su llegada a los Estados Unidos (1997) hasta el presente, trabaja como directora y dramaturga invitada del Teatro de la Luna, en Washington DC. Se incorpora al Teatro Avante (1999) como actriz y asume la Coordinación de Producción del Festival Internacional de Teatro Hispano de Miami hasta el 2015. En el 2007 ingresa como maestra en Teatro Prometeo del Miami Dade College. Se une en el 2012 al equipo de maestros del Adriana Barraza Acting Studio como directora y maestra de actuación para niños y adultos. En el año 2016 funda con Melissa Messulam la organización artística Conecta Miami Arts donde asume el cargo de directora Artística. En el 2025 abre el NJB Cultural Center y crea en el 2026 el Jackie Briceño Acting School.
Actualmente es la Directora Artística del Festival Internacional de Teatro Hispano de Miami en sus ediciones 39 y 40.
Dentro de algunos de sus premios y reconocimientos se encuentran: Premio Escena de Miami 2018, como Mejor obra y Mejor Actriz con su texto “Cántame sobre el amor… y otras torturas”. Women’s History Month. Women in Theater, reconocimiento entregado por el Miami Dade College (2008). Premio de Dramaturgia “María Teresa León” por la obra: “La Casa de Todos”, otorgado por la Asociación de directores de Escena de España (ADE), el Instituto de la Mujer y la Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE), Madrid-España (2005). Premio Mejor Actriz de Reparto del Festival Nacional de Danza y Teatro del Teatro Nacional Juvenil de Venezuela, con la obra "Gracias te doy José Gregorio por los favores recibidos", de Rodolfo Santana, Caracas, Venezuela. (1992). Nominación al Premio Nacional “Marco Antonio Eteggi” como Mejor Actriz, por la Fundación Rajatabla. Caracas, Venezuela, con la obra “Medida por Medida” de W. Shakespeare. (1991)
She is a Venezuelan actress, director, acting teacher, and playwright. She began her acting career in 1973. Since her arrival in the United States in 1997, she has worked as a guest director and playwright with Teatro de la Luna in Washington, DC. She joined Teatro Avante in 1999 as an actress and served as Production Coordinator of the Miami International Hispanic Theatre Festival until 2015. In 2007, she joined Teatro Prometeo at Miami Dade College as an acting instructor. In 2012, she became part of the teaching staff at the Adriana Barraza Acting Studio as a director and acting teacher for children and adults. In 2016, she co-founded the artistic organization Conecta Miami Arts with Melissa Messulam, where she serves as Artistic Director. In 2025, she opened the NJB Cultural Center, and in 2026, she founded the Jackie Briceño Acting School.
She is currently the Artistic Director of the Miami International Hispanic Theatre Festival for its 39th and 40th editions.

JULIO RODRÍGUEZ ( LEAR )
Comienza sus estudios teatrales en la Escuela Nacional de Arte de Cuba en 1969. Al graduarse, en 1972, pasa a formar parte del prestigioso grupo teatral cubano “Teatro Estudio”. En 1986 recibe el premio al mejor actor por su actuación en “La verdadera culpa de Juan Clemente Zenea” de Abilio Estévez y dirigida por Abelardo Estorino, otorgado por la Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba. En 1994 se radica en Venezuela donde además de unirse movimiento teatral venezolano, ejerce como profesor de actuación en diversas academias y entrena a importantes figuras de la televisión venezolana. En el 2002 se traslada a Río de Janeiro para participar en la primera producción dramática en español de TV GLOBO. A partir del 2003 reside en los Estados Unidos, donde se une a Teatro Avante integrando los elencos de: La feria de los inventos, El filántropo, Una tempestad, Yerma, La Celestina, Por las tierras de Colón, Aire frío, El malentendido, El no, Al pie del Támesis, Años difíciles, Alguna cosita que alivie el sufrir, El puerto de los cristales rotos, Notas que saben a olvido, En ningún lugar del mundo, Bayamesa, Ubú pandemia ,Mejor que me calle ,Disonancia y LEAR. The actor began his theatre studies at Cuba's Escuela Nacional de Arte in 1969 and upon graduating in 1972 joined the prestigious Teatro Estudio, where he remained until 1994. He worked with prestigious Cuban actors and directors during his time with the company. In 1986, he earned the best performance award at the Francisco Covarrubias National Theatre Competition conducted by the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba. In 1994, he moved to Venezuela, where he worked with the country's major theatre companies. In 2002, he traveled to Rio de Janeiro to take part in TV GLOBO's first Spanish-language production. During his 53-year artistic career, he has performed in Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Greece, the former Yugoslavia, Slovenia and the United States. Another success was his performance in the world premiere of Abilio Estévez's La última función, co-starring Rosario (Charin) Suarez, produced by Nobarte and directed by Lilliam Vega. He currently lives in Miami and has worked with Teatro Avante for more tan 20 years in the La feria de los inventos, El filántropo, Una tempestad, Yerma, La Celestina, Por las tierras de Colón, Aire frío, El malentendido, El no, Al pie del Támesis, Años difíciles, Alguna cosita que alivie el sufrir, El puerto de los cristales rotos, Notas que saben a olvido, Nowhere in the World, Bayamesa, Ubu pandemic, and I'd Better Shut Up.
CLAUDIA VALDÉS ( GONERIL )
Actriz cubana, escritora y productora cubana radicada en Estados Unidos. Con una sólida trayectoria en teatro, cine y televisión, ha participado en numerosas producciones escénicas, destacándose por su versatilidad, sensibilidad y fuerza interpretativa.
En teatro ha formado parte de obras como Huevos y Cómplices de Alexis Valdés, La mascarilla, Lear de William Shakespeare con Teatro Avante, y Laponia, entre otras. También ha trabajado en televisión y cine, en películas como El Mayor de Rigoberto López, Inocencia de Alejandro Gil (Premio al Mejor Elenco en el Festival de Cine Latinoamericano de Trieste, Italia, 2019; Premio del Público, Coral en el 40 Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, Cuba, 2018) y Plantadas de Lilo Vilaplana (Premio del Público a Mejor Largometraje en el Festival de Cine de Miami, 2023). LAURA ALEMÁN ( REGAN )
Actriz cubana, graduada de la Escuela Profesional de Arte Samuel Feijoo y formó parte del Grupo de Teatro El Ingenio. Ha trabajado en cine, teatro y televisión, y actualmente está radicada en Miami, donde también ha incursionado en el activismo político apoyando campañas como Patria y Vida.
Su mayor experiencia se centra en el teatro, donde fue parte de la controvertida puesta El Rey se muere de Juan Carlos Cremata que fue censurada en la isla. Entre sus trabajos recientes aparece la puesta Vuelve a contármelo todo, obra escrita y dirigida por el dramaturgo Abel González Melo que se presentó en Estados Unidos y en España. También protagonizó Otra audición, fue parte del elenco de Las lloronas y coprotagonizó Dos Hermanas y un piano, obra escrita y dirigida por Nilo Cruz, dramaturgo que ganó el Pulitzer.
Con apariciones en series televisivas, debutó en el cine con el largometraje Viva (2015), dirigido por Paddy Breathnach. En el filme, que desafía las nociones de masculinidad e identidad, compartió roles con Héctor Medina, Jorge Perugorría, Luis Alberto García y Paula Alí.

Actor cubano, graduado de la Escuela Nacional de Arte y de la Universidad de las Artes (ISA). De 2012 a 2021 formó parte de la compañía Argos Teatro bajo la dirección de Carlos Celdrán, actuando en producciones como 10 Millones, por la cual recibió el premio HOLA a la Excelencia en Teatro por Mejor Actuación Latina, otorgado por la Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors en Nueva York, y el Premio ATI (Artistas de Teatro Independiente) al Mejor Actor de un Grupo Visitante en Nueva York, además de Misterios y pequeñas piezas y Hierro, todas escritas y dirigidas por Carlos Celdrán. También ha trabajado en televisión y cine, apareciendo en la serie Zoológico y en películas como José Martí: El ojo del canario de Fernando Pérez (Premio Ariel a la Mejor Película Iberoamericana, 2011), Últimos días en La Habana de Fernando Pérez, El Mayor de Rigoberto López, La joven novicia de Arturo Soto, y Plantadas de Lilo Vilaplana (Premio del Público a Mejor Largometraje en el Festival de Cine de Miami, 2023). JORGE NOA / PEDRO BALMASEDA ( Escenografía, Vestuario y Utilería / Set, Costumes & Props )
El tándem compuesto por Jorge Noa y Pedro Balmaseda incluye en su trabajo el diseño artístico, arquitectónico y de interiores. Son conocidos y respetados dentro del panorama escénico de Miami por sus diseños teatrales, así como por la importante labor de rescate de las más hermosas tradiciones del arte cubano. Jorge nació en Camagüey, graduado de Arquitectura en el Instituto Superior Politécnico en Santiago de Cuba y Pedro en la Habana, graduado de Odontología en la Universidad de la Habana. En Cuba reciben dos premios Máscara de Caoba por sus trabajos escenográficos colaborando con muchas compañías de la isla. Se trasladan a Venezuela concentrando su labor en escenografía para televisión en canales nacionales como Televen y Venevision. Radicados en Miami desde 1998, dirigen la compañía Genoah Interior Design, Inc. que ha creado ambientes comerciales y residenciales en todo el sur de la Florida. Paralelamente comandan la empresa de producción artística Nobarte que además de presentaciones artísticas brinda servicios de realización de escenografía y vestuario para diversos grupos de la ciudad. Realizan una labor importante en el Teatro Prometeo del Miami Dade College, diseñando más de 10 producciones. Sus creaciones han sido usadas por diversos grupos teatrales, tales como Teatro Doble, Galiano 108, El Ingenio Teatro, y Wolfson Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble, entre otros. Desde 2006 las producciones de Teatro Avante se han embellecido con sus acertados y hermosos diseños de escenografía y vestuario. Han participado en diversos festivales internacionales y sus creaciones han sido montadas en escenarios de Brasil, Costa Rica, Eslovenia, España, Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico y Perú y México.
The team of Jorge Noa and Pedro Balmaseda includes in its work artistic, architectural and interior design. They are known and respected within Miami's performing arts scene for their theatrical designs, as well as for their important mission of reclaiming the most beautiful traditions of Cuban art. Jorge was born in Camagüey and graduated from the Instituto Superior Politécnico of Santiago de Cuba with a degree in architecture. Pedro was born in Havana and graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in dentistry. In Cuba they earned two Máscara de Caoba awards for their set designs for many theater groups on the island. They moved to Venezuela and concentrated on designing sets for television, including national channels like Televen and Venevisión. Living in Miami since 1998, they head the firm Genoah Interior Design, Inc., which has created comercial and residential environments throughout South Florida. At the same time, they head the artistic production company Nobarte, which in addition to artistic presentations offers set and costume manufacture for various groups. They do major work for Miami Dade College's Teatro Prometeo, designing more than ten productions in recent years. Their creations have been used by many other theatrical companies, such as Teatro Doble, Galiano 108, El Ingenio Teatro and Wolfson Opera/Musical Ensemble, among others. Since 2006 Teatro Avante's productions have been graced with their accurate and beautiful set and costume designs. Those productions include Una tempestad, Yerma, La Celestina, Aire frio, Por las tierras de Colón, El malentendido, El no, Al pie del Támesis, Años difíciles, Alguna cosita que alivie el sufrir, El puerto de los critales rotos, Notas que saben a olvido, Nowhere in the World, Bayamesa, Ubu pandemic, and I'd Better Shut Up. They have participated in a range of theater festivals and their creations have enhanced stages in Brazil, Costa Rica, Slovenia, Spain, United States, Puerto Rico, Peru and Mexico.
ERNESTO PINTO ( Ilumminación / Lighting )
Es un diseñador de iluminación venezolano con una destacada y extensa trayectoria. A lo largo de su carrera, ha creado diseños para teatro, musicales, ópera, ballet y conciertos. En 2017 recibió el Premio Avencrit al Mejor Diseño de Iluminación en su país. También ha sido reconocido con dos certificados de premiación de los Latin Grammy por su trabajo como diseñador de iluminación y director de fotografía en Una Noche Común y Sin Corriente, ambos en la categoría de Video de Larga Duración.
En los Estados Unidos, fue nominado a los Premios Carbonell por su diseño de luces para Tebas Land, producción de Arca Images. Además, ha realizado diseños de iluminación para compañías como Miami New Drama, GableStage, Loxen Productions, Arca Images, Miami Light Project, Teatro Avante entre otras.
